The first services for the Jamestown Wesleyan Methodist Church were held in the early 1870’s in the open air, in private homes and in shepherd’s huts. These were led by a missionary from Clare.
The first chapel was built in 1873 and was located at the rear of the present Uniting Church site on Irvine Street and this was also used as a day school.
In 1878 the present church was opened by Rev Thos. Lloyd, President of the Wesleyan Conference.
By 1990 various Congregational Committees were formed with the youth catered for with Sunday School, Christian Endeavour and a Thursday night Bible Study.
The present manse was purchased in 1918 in Arran Street and the original Parsonage sold on South Terrace.
In March 1970, the Jamestown Methodist Circuit and the Jamestown Presbyterian Church joined to form the Jamestown United Parish. The former Presbyterian Church building was sold to the Lutheran’s and is still used by them as their place of worship.
In 1977 with the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia, the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist Churches united and the Jamestown United Parish was renamed the Jamestown Uniting Church in Australia.
By 1999 the Jamestown Parish included the Uniting Churches of Jamestown, Hallett and Whyte Yarcowie.
Appila then joined the Jamestown Parish in January 2000 Appila and in December 2004, Orroroo, Carrieton and Morchard also joined and the name was changed to the Jamestown Circuit.
At the beginning of 2006, there was a significant restructure of the seven Presbyteries in South Australia and the Frome Presbytery (from which the Jamestown Circuit was a member), was absorbed into a single Presbytery for the State. Clements Gap and Mundoora then joined the Jamestown Circuit and this formed the Goyder Ministry Area. Appila closed in February 2006, Morchard in 2010 and Carrieton in 2012.
In 2010, the Goyder Ministry Area chose to make a change to a Resourcing Ministry with the placement of a new Minister in September of that year. This new ministry was supported and resourced by the leadership teams (church councils) and by the Minister. After two years in the Resourcing Ministry Model the Jamestown Uniting Church, as a member of the Goyder Ministry Area, continue to prayerfully consider their future, under the guidance of the Supply Minister.
